Beginners niveau.

1. House of the Blackheads (Melngalvju Nams)

During my trip to Riga I visited one of the architectural treasers of this city, dating from 1344. A striking Gothic

building with a Dutch Renaissence facade, it was used to house travelling, single members of the merchants' guild.

I used the architectural rhythms and beatiful shapes of this building in this piece.

Riga is a very musical city, full of classical, jazz and choirmusic. All these influences are in the piece.

2. Walk the lines

This piece is dedicated to Michael Nyman. Nyman always uses material of others composers, like Mozart,

Pachelbel and Purcel. He puts the music under a microscope and leads the music to unknown places. In this

piece I did the same with Michael's music. I put the 'Nyman' style in an other perspective.

3. Pulse

The "Pulse" motif travels through the whole piece in different speeds and characters. The Pulse works like a

heartbeat, it is always there but shifting every bas a little bit. Pulse is also the time between impulses. Impulses

can be chords, motifsand rhytms. And even the five different parts of the piece create together a Pulse.
